Judge finds Begody-Begay’s petition invalid

The Arizona Secretary of state Office Friday confirmed that former Navajo Times editor Candace Begody-Begay will not be in the Republican primary.
Begody-Begay filed for the position held by her husband, Carlyle Begay, in the state senate and although she was the only candidate running in the primary, a challenge was filed against her, claiming she did not have enough valid signatures on her election petition.
The challenge claimed that more than 200 of the 324 signatures she filed were invalid and a hearing was scheduled on Friday to determine if she had enough valid signatures to run.
But according to information provided by the Secretary of State office, she failed to show up and was found in default. The judge even went one step further and because she failed to show up after requesting the hearing, said she would have to pay the attorney fees for the person who filed the challenge.
