NHA to appeal HUD decision to withhold $96M

WINDOW ROCK

Though the Navajo Housing Authority lost another battle in its $96 million dispute with its funding authority, NHA officials are continuing to say that they will ultimately win the war.

On Wednesday, officials for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development affirmed the decision made by an administrative law judge with the HUD Office of Hearings last December that allowed HUD to recapture $96 million in funding approved before 2012.

Aneva Yazzie, the CEO for NHA, said while she was disappointed with HUD’s decision, “I am not the least bit surprised.

“HUD started this enforcement proceeding and it would have been unrealistic to think that at the end of the day, HUD would have ruled in our favor,” she said.
