Hopi High students raising money to fund journalism trip to Denver

Students from Hopi High School want to take their journalism skills on the road, and possibly gain a few along the way.
The students from Hopi High’s journalism, radio and video classes want to raise enough funds to make it to the annual National High School Journalism Convention in Denver, Colo. this coming April.
“There’s literally hundreds of breakout sessions led by professionals,” said Teacher Stan Bindell of the conference.
“They get tips on how to do journalism better, whether it’s print or broadcast,” he added, and his students will get a chance to compete for scholarships.
“They get to meet journalism students from other schools and they get to see what some of these other journalism students are doing,” Bindell said, adding that he’s seen the statistics and less than one percent are Native American.
The trip will cost $1,200 per a student.
