Two years had elapsed since Kirtland Central girls basketball hoisted a state championship trophy.

The pain of last year’s state semifinal loss to Santa Fe Indian School was felt on so many levels for Navajo Prep girls basketball.

On Friday the two San Juan County schools were the last ones standing as both programs captured state titles, at the 4A and 3A levels, respectively, at the Pit in Albuquerque.

The Broncos will take on No. 2 seed St. Pius X at 7 p.m. Friday. The Lady Sartans defeated No. 3 seed Artesia, 61-41, in Thursday’s other semifinals.

The Class 3A state title game will be decided by two teams from District 1-3A.
