WINDOW ROCK

Miyamura High English teacher Shinae Reid, Diné, made a startling discovery as she talked with her class about the Window Rock area.
“A lot of my non-Native students haven’t been northwest of Gallup, New Mexico,” Reid said. “Some of them have never been to the Navajo Nation Fair.”
How could students who live less than 30 miles from the capital of the Navajo Nation not have been there, she wondered? So … she brought them to Kids’ Day at the Navajo Nation Fair.
“A lot of them were like, ‘Ms. Reid, I’m so excited that I’m coming here (to the fair). I’ve never been here,’” she said. “A lot of them are really fascinated with the language, the culture, the atmosphere.”
