Kirtland Central High School’s Alexandria Cambridge (12) jumps for a kill during a District 1-4A match with Shiprock. The Lady Broncos picked up the win and defeated Shiprock, 3-2 (20-25, 25-14, 22-25, 25-18, 15-8).

KIRTLAND

Do your job and do it well.

That’s what the Kirtland Central High School volleyball team had to remember when they put away Shiprock High School with a 3-2 win (20-25, 25-14, 22-25, 25-18, 15-8) in a District 1-4A match on Oct. 27.

Kirtland Central is now 12-5 and 7-2 in the district, Shiprock 13-6 and 7-2. The two are tied at the top of the district standings.

Kirtland Central head coach Nadia Begay-Watson said the Ping-Pong style match went in the Lady Broncos’ favor thanks to their ability to remain focused throughout the intense match.

“We’re really stressing that: just focus on what your job is and everything will go into place,” she said. “They’ve been really meshing really well and that was the main thing for us: just the consistency of their playing. Just focus on what your job is and do it well.”
