Window Rock girls, Laguna-Acoma boys win team title
ZUNI, N.M.
It didn’t take too long in determining who won the team titles at the Zuni Patason Amesoli Invitational on Saturday.
With a solid pack time of 1:22, the Laguna-Acoma boys finished the meet with 46 points, which was 29 points better than Albuquerque East Mountain.
The Window Rock Lady Scouts were just as impressive as they packed five runners in the top 17 for a first place finish of 47 points. East Mountain came in second with 71 markers.
Both schools also took individual titles as Window Rock junior Chamique Duboise won this year’s meet in 20:11 despite battling a cold while Laguna-Acoma senior Jacob Sanchez won his third meet of the year against a strong field of runners that included East Mountain runner Alex Heffelfinger and Miyamura runners Niles Thomas and Nicholas Jamison.
“I finally met my goal of beating Niles this year,” said Sanchez, who crossed the finish line in 17:10. “Niles and Heffelfinger were pushing my pace and that was good.”
