Obituaries for June 25, 2026

Kathleen J. Wauneka

ST. MICHAELS, Ariz. – Funeral services for Kathleen J. Wauneka, 68, of Window Rock, will be held Friday, June 26, at 10 a.m., at the Green Meadows Funeral Home in St. Michaels, Arizona. Burial will follow at the St. Michaels cemetery.

Kathleen was born June 20, 1958, in Fort Defiance, into the Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People Clan), born for Kinyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan). She passed away June 20, 2026, in Phoenix.

Kathleen is survived by her children, Rachael Tom, Krystal Tom and Shawna Tom; siblings, Frankie Nez, Franklin Nez, Charlotte Bighorse, Roxanne Woody and Marilyn Charlee; and 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A reception will take place at the St. Michaels Chapter House following services.

Green Meadows Funeral Home oversaw arrangements.


 

Roy Nelson

GALLUP – Funeral services for Roy Nelson, 73, of Cousins, New Mexico, will be held Saturday, June 27, at 9 a.m., at the Cope Memorial Chapel in Gallup, with Johnny Nells officiating. Burial will follow at the Gallup City Cemetery.

Roy was born June 21, 1952, in Zuni, New Mexico, into the Kiyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan), born for Tł’ááshchí’í (Red Bottom People Clan). He passed away June 17, 2026, in Fort Wingate, New Mexico.

Roy graduated from high school and was employed with HVAC Control Air and Metal. He enjoyed golfing, listening to Christian music, and watching old movies, football, and basketball.

Roy is survived by his wife, Dorothy Nelson; parents, Betty Skeet and John Nelson; sisters, Ella Martine and Judy James; grandparents, Mary and Money Skeet; and 53 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Roy is preceded in death by his daughters, Roseanna Nelson and Stephanita Nelson.

Pallbearers will be Tyrone, Victor, Elijah, Ivan, Jaden and Darius.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Sr., Ryan, Leon, Junior, Clifford and Daniel.

A reception will take place at the Iyanbito Chapter House following services.
